A craftsperson is an artist, deeply rooted in their practice and tradition, excelling at creating meaningful products. However, branding can uplift their work and add market value. In my collaboration with a local craftsperson in Triberg, Germany, the project focused on understanding their needs and craft to deliver a comprehensive branding solution. This helped them position themselves more effectively in the market while enhancing their brand aesthetics.

Context
Triberg im Schwarzwald, in Germany's Black Forest, is famous for the world’s largest cuckoo clock and its tradition of hand-carved cuckoo clocks. Despite its popularity with tourists, local woodcarving artists often struggle to reach a broader audience.
When I visited Sammuel, I noticed key branding issues. He needed a cohesive identity that reflected his artistry and aligned with his craft.

Logo Mark
In Germany, people are known more by their last name, to highlight that “K” has been used as primary initial with a subtle “S” in the form. The pattern of lines resembles the wooden pattern as well as the way a wood is carved bit by bit. The idea was to have something that can also act as a stamp for his products or be carved on it, so a lino cut style has been given to it.

Compliments the wooden texture | Can be engraved or stamped on wood
Word Mark

A nature-inspired palette with warm browns, earthy tones, and forest green accents evokes the Black Forest, reflecting Kammerer's craft. A modern typeface complements the elegance of the logomark.

The visual language was further incorporated in his brochure and to give a more simplistic approach to his website, a new base layout with revised user experience was suggested.
