A Visual Exploration of Cognitive Dissonance in Modern Superstitions

This publication investigates the psychological tension between belief and disbelief, how individuals who consciously dismiss superstitions often still engage with them subconsciously.

Conducted during an exchange semester at Hochschule Pforzheim, Germany, the project draws from cross-cultural conversations and observations of how superstition quietly persists in daily life.

Do you believe in superstitions? Though we often say no, we still trust ideas like jinx. This publication explores that tension between logic and belief through contrasting visuals of order and chaos, inviting readers to question themselves through interactive moments and hidden easter eggs.

Dear Oliver,

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my excitement about creating websites with Framer's intuitive no-code platform.

Let's explore it together!Looking forward to discussing more about our design adventures!

My wife is from Russia and she won't cut my hair on a Sunday because it's bad luck. Also you have to burn the hair you cut, not just throw it in the garbage.

In some cultures, it is believed that when you sneeze, your soul is temporarily separated from your body, and saying "bless you" or "gesundheit" is a way to protect the soul from evil spirits or to ensure its safe return to the body.

Beliefs are a bit weird. Many of them can be wildly incorrect, and it just does not matter. We do things because we fear.

If someone were to believe that their blinking causes the sun to rise… Well, they would keep blinking.

In an international setting, I discovered how deeply superstitions are ingrained in our subconscious, often denied yet widely followed, from fearing a black cat to sharing a “good luck” post online.
